Kalshi Order Types, Explained — The Full Operator Map

TL;DR: Kalshi has three order tools — a market order (fill now at the book's price, slippage risk on thin markets), a limit order (cap your price in cents, might not fill), and "submit as resting order only" (post-only — force it to rest, never take). Below: each one in plain English, plus the fixes when an order won't fill, pends, or the price moves. Text PJ — 858-461-8054.

The three order types

Order type · take liquidity
Kalshi Market Order →
Fills you now at whatever the book offers. Guarantees the fill, not the price — and on a thin market it walks the book (slippage). When to use it, and the slippage trap.
Order type · set the price
Kalshi Limit Order →
Sets the worst price you'll accept, in cents. Fills as a taker if it crosses the spread, or rests as a maker if it can't. The default price-controlled tool — limit vs market, explained.
Order type · post-only toggle
"Submit as Resting Order Only" →
The post-only / maker-only checkbox: your order may only rest on the book, never take liquidity. If it would fill instantly, Kalshi rejects it. Why it exists and when it might never fill.
