AI Quoting Software for Contractors (2026)
Quick answer: AI quoting software drafts a quote or estimate for you from something you already have, like a customer's request, your site notes, a voice memo or a set of plans. You review it, fix the numbers and send it. For service businesses and contractors, the real win is speed: getting a clean, itemized quote to the customer while they are still comparing you with two other companies. Every price and feature below comes from the vendor's own website, checked in September 2026.
The comparison: 5 tools with AI quoting
| Tool | Best for | AI quoting feature (vendor's words) | Starting price | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | Home-service crews (cleaning, lawn, handyman, HVAC) who want quoting, scheduling and invoicing in one app | "Auto-drafted quotes": creates draft quotes from new requests, or use the "Draft for me" button, then "just review and hit 'send'." | Core $49/mo billed monthly; $29/mo on an annual plan ($21/mo for the first 12 months) | 14 days on the Grow plan, no credit card |
| Joist | Solo contractors and small crews who mainly need estimates and invoices | "Create estimates & invoices with AI" and "Polish notes with AI," listed on all plans | Basics $8.34/mo billed annually (capped at 5 documents a month) | 14 days, no credit card |
| Buildxact | Residential builders and remodelers estimating from plans | "AI Estimating" on the free Go plan; "Blu: Estimate Generator" included on Pro; "Blu: Takeoff Assistant" and "Blu: Estimate Reviewer" are add-ons | Go $0/mo (5 complimentary credits); Pro $399/mo, or $339/mo billed annually | 14 days |
| Handoff | Remodelers who want a bid out the same day they walk the job | "Upload or transcribe project scope. Handoff builds the estimate for you." | Flex $119/mo billed annually ($149 regular) | 7 days, no credit card |
| ServiceTitan | Larger HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies with a price book and a sales team | Titan Intelligence: "Price Insights" and "Job Value Predictor" compare your price with the average selling price for that service in your region. "Automated Proposal Templates" are listed as coming soon. | Quote-based | No trial listed; free demo |

What each one is actually good at
- Jobber. The AI sits where most service quotes start: a new request comes in and Jobber drafts the quote from it (per Jobber pricing page, Sept 2026). It is a full field-service app, so it makes most sense if you also want scheduling, invoicing and client follow-up in the same place. There is also an AI Receptionist add-on at $29/mo.
- Joist. The lowest entry price here and very simple. The catch: Basics allows only 5 documents a month. The Pro plan removes the cap ($17/mo billed monthly, or $14.17/mo annually, per Joist pricing page, Sept 2026).
- Buildxact. Built for estimating from plans and assemblies, not quick service calls. You can try the AI for free on Go, but the Blu Estimate Generator is included from Pro, and takeoff and estimate review cost extra (per Buildxact pricing page, Sept 2026).
- Handoff. The most AI-first tool on this list. You describe the scope, by upload or voice, and it builds the estimate. Handoff's pitch: "Get accurate bids out the door the same day you walk the job" (per Handoff pricing page, Sept 2026).
- ServiceTitan. Its AI is more about pricing guidance than drafting quotes. It shows how your price compares with the regional average for that service. That is useful for a big shop and overkill for a two-truck operation.
How to pick (5 steps)
- Write down where your quotes start. A web request or phone call points to Jobber. A walkthrough with notes points to Handoff or Joist. A set of plans points to Buildxact.
- Count your quotes per month. Under 5 a month, Joist Basics may be enough. Above that, compare the unlimited tiers.
- Check what you already pay for. If you already run a field-service app, find out whether it has an AI quote feature before you add a second tool.
- Run one real job through the trial. Take a quote you already sent last month and rebuild it with the AI. Compare line items, total and how long it took.
- Price the plan you'll actually need. Several AI features sit on higher tiers or cost extra as add-ons. Price the plan that includes the feature, not the cheapest plan on the page.
When not to bother
- You send a handful of repeat quotes. A saved template or a price book in the tool you already use is faster than learning something new.
- Your prices aren't written down. AI drafts from your data. If your labor rates and material markups live in your head, set up a price book first or the AI will just guess faster.
- Your slow step is follow-up, not drafting. If quotes go out fast but nobody chases them, fix follow-up reminders first.
- You'd send it without reading it. Every tool here expects you to review the draft. If that step gets skipped, a wrong quantity goes straight to the customer.
Tools we checked and left out
Housecall Pro has Quotes & Proposals, and its Max plan includes a sales proposal tool. But its AI Team page describes AI for booking, marketing and coaching, not for drafting estimates, so it isn't in the table (per Housecall Pro pricing and AI Team pages, Sept 2026). Tradify's AI (SmartRead and SmartWrite, Plus plan only) captures bills and writes descriptions, not full quotes (per Tradify pricing page). Knowify's pricing page lists estimates and proposals, but doesn't call them AI-powered (per Knowify pricing page).
San Diego & North County trades
If you run a crew in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside or anywhere in San Diego County, the tool matters less than the setup: getting your price book in, connecting the request form on your website, and making sure a drafted quote reaches the customer the same day. That's the piece PJ helps with. We don't resell any of these tools. We help you pick one and get it working.
Save time and money, or you don't pay. Start with one $150 SideGuy Hour — if it doesn't save you more time or money than it costs, you don't pay for it. Keep going only if it paid for itself. See the SideGuy Hour →

Frequently Asked: AI Quoting Software
What is AI quoting software? +
It is quoting or estimating software that uses AI to draft the quote for you, from a customer request, your notes, a voice recording or a plan upload. You still review the line items and prices before you send it.
What is the cheapest AI quoting software for contractors? +
Of the tools compared here, Joist is the cheapest paid option: the Basics plan is $8.34/mo billed annually and includes creating estimates and invoices with AI, but it is capped at 5 documents a month. Buildxact's Go plan is $0/mo with 5 complimentary credits for estimates and proposals (per vendor pricing pages, Sept 2026).
Does Jobber have AI quoting? +
Yes. Jobber's pricing page lists auto-drafted quotes: it can create draft quotes from new requests, or you can press Draft for me, then review and send. The 14-day free trial gives full access to the Grow plan with no credit card required (per Jobber pricing page, Sept 2026).
Does Housecall Pro have AI quoting? +
Housecall Pro has Quotes & Proposals and an AI Team, but its AI Team page does not describe an AI that drafts estimates, so we left it out of the table. The Max plan includes a sales proposal tool (per Housecall Pro pricing and AI Team pages, Sept 2026).
Should I trust an AI-generated quote without checking it? +
No. Treat every AI quote as a first draft. Check quantities, labor hours, materials pricing and exclusions against your price book before you send it. The time saving is in the drafting, not in skipping the review.
