Solana Beach, insider guide.

A real local's guide to eating, drinking, surfing, and seeing shows in the four-block stretch where most people just blow through on the way somewhere else. Cedros design district, Belly Up + The Sound, Fletcher Cove sunset bluff, the Coaster station, and the dive bars that make the town actually a town. From PJ at SideGuy — office around the corner.

I don't go to shows — I route ideas.

Where to eat

8 picks · low to high
Pizza Port Solana Beach
571 Hwy 101 · 30+ craft beers on tap
CRAFT BEER · ICONIC

The Solana Beach OG. Sourdough pizza, 30+ rotating taps, picnic tables, and the kind of crowd that includes both surf families and the local construction crew. Sharkbite Red is the pour.

Pre-Belly-Up move: arrive 6:30, grab the corner table, eat fast, walk 50 feet to doors.
Lockwood Table Café
132 S Cedros Ave · brunch + dinner
CEDROS · DATE-NIGHT

The Cedros vibes anchor. Coastal-Italian dinner, weekend brunch, full bar. Sit-down energy without being stuffy. The chicken under a brick is the move.

Reserve weekends. Walk-up works Tue-Thu most weeks.
Pacific Coast Grill
437 S Hwy 101 · ocean view
SPLURGE · OCEANFRONT

Cliffside ocean view, fresh seafood, full bar. The "I'm celebrating something" spot. Sunset reservations sell out a week ahead.

Get the patio. Indoor dining is fine but the patio is why people come.
Fidel's Little Mexico
607 Valley Ave · 1960
LEGACY · MARGARITAS

Family-owned since 1960. The margaritas are stiff, the carnitas are real, and the staff has been there longer than your apartment lease. The Solana Beach institution.

Patio + happy hour Mon-Fri 3-6pm. Cash-or-card, fast service.
Naked Café
106 S Sierra Ave · all-day breakfast
BRUNCH · POST-SURF

All-day breakfast, fresh juices, beach-vibe interior. The post-surf, pre-everything spot. Coconut pancakes if you only get one thing.

Walk-up only weekends — no reservations, plan 25 min wait Sat-Sun.
Tony's Jacal
621 Valley Ave · since 1946
LEGACY · GREEN ENCHILADAS

Older than Fidel's. Green enchiladas, hand-made tortillas, no-fuss interior. Three generations of regulars. The place locals send out-of-towners as a "this is what real SD Mexican is."

Cash works. No website really matters — just go.
Zel's Del Mar
1247 Camino Del Mar · just south
JUST OVER LINE · BAR-FOOD

Technically Del Mar but everyone considers it Solana-adjacent. Stiff drinks, killer wedge salad, late-night kitchen. The "we're staying out longer" pivot spot.

Bobby's West Coast Tavern
404 N Hwy 101 · sports bar+
SPORTS · BAR-FOOD

Sports on every screen, decent burgers, cold beer. The "let's actually watch the game" spot — Sundays packed. NFL 10am-10pm during the season.

How locals actually navigate Solana Beach.

🚆 Coaster Station

Solana Beach Coaster station is at 105 N Cedros, 4 blocks from Belly Up. $2-$5 from downtown SD, runs roughly hourly. Pacific Surfliner Amtrak also stops here. The smartest concert move — skip the parking nightmare.

↗ Coaster schedule

🅿️ Free street parking

Cedros Ave north of Lomas Santa Fe = free, 2-min walk to Belly Up. Most weekend nights still has spots. Avoid Plaza St / Sierra Ave during business hours (2hr limit, ticketed).

🚗 Uber pickup zone

Post-Belly Up: walk south 50 feet to the corner of Cedros + Plaza instead of the venue front. Avoids congestion. Surge usually 1.4× from 10:30-11:15 PM weekends.

↗ Uber to door

🚲 Walkability

From the Coaster station to Pizza Port → Saddlebar → Belly Up → Fletcher Cove is a 0.7-mile walk. The whole town is one Cedros corridor. Don't drive between stops — you'll spend more time finding parking than walking.

🌊 Surf parking

Cardiff Reef: Tide Park lot $5/day. Coast Hwy 101 free street works at low tide (but enforce-tow rules apply). Pillbox: park at the Tide Beach Park staircase.

📡 Cell signal

Verizon + AT&T solid everywhere. T-Mobile spotty on the bluff at Fletcher. Belly Up indoors = expect dead zone — screenshot your tickets.

I work three blocks from Belly Up.

This page exists because I live the corridor — Pizza Port for the Sunday game, Lockwood for date night, Fletcher Cove for sunset, Saddlebar for the after. If you're new to town, visiting, or trying to figure out where to take a friend who's flying in — text me. Worst case I tell you which Cedros block to start on.
