⚙️ TECH-HELP · QUICKBOOKS TROUBLESHOOTING
QuickBooks bank feed not updating? Triage it fast.
Feed stopped, transactions missing, the Update button does nothing. Most of it is one of six things — work the triage below. Then the deeper fix, so blind books never stall your month-end again.

The 60-second triage
Work these in order · most feeds come back on step 1–3
- Look for an account flagged with an error. Open Banking (or Transactions → Bank transactions). An account that needs attention shows a warning icon or an "update your sign-in" prompt. That silent flag is the #1 cause — your bank dropped the connection and QuickBooks didn't shout about it.
- Reconnect / re-authenticate the account. Banks force periodic re-authentication for security; a password reset or new multi-factor setting breaks the feed the same way. Click the flagged account → update sign-in → step through your bank's login + MFA. This fixes most stuck feeds.
- Remember: only POSTED transactions import. A charge still pending at your bank won't appear until the bank posts it — usually 1–3 business days. A "missing" recent transaction is very often just not posted yet.
- Run Update manually. Banking → Update (top right). Auto-refresh can lag; a manual pull often catches what's waiting.
- Check if your bank changed. A bank merger, a new online-banking portal, or a renamed login page means QuickBooks is pointing at a dead connection. You'll need to disconnect and re-add the account against the new portal.
- Rule out a QuickBooks-side or bank-side outage. If Update runs but nothing changes across multiple accounts, it's likely not you — check QuickBooks status and your bank's status page before digging further.
⚙️ The deeper fix · SideGuy builds it
A backup layer for your bookkeeping data
SideGuy builds you a parallel pipeline — it pulls your transaction data on a schedule, stores it somewhere you own, and can reconcile or report independent of QuickBooks' bank-feed uptime. The feed drops, you're not blind. It's the parallel layer — the training wheels you keep wanting even when things are fine.
It's a per-business build (it needs your QuickBooks connection and a look at the reports you live on). The first hour is free — text PJ and we'll scope whether it's worth it for your setup. Operator-honest: if you don't need it, we'll say so.
