Shopify Store Webhook Failing
Quick answer: In the Shopify Dev Dashboard, open Apps > your app > Logs and filter for webhook deliveries. Shopify Dev says the delivery details show topic, URI, response, attempt, headers, and HMAC fields, per Shopify Dev, Sept 2026.
1. Confirm the subscribed topic and URI
Check that the app is subscribed to the event you expect, such as orders/create or refunds/create, and that the endpoint URI is the production HTTPS route your app actually serves. Shopify requires HTTPS for HTTPS webhook delivery.
2. Check response status in delivery logs
Open the delivery log and review the response code, topic, shop, URI, subscription method, and delivery method. Shopify treats 200-range responses as successful, per Shopify Dev, Sept 2026.
3. Verify HMAC against the raw request body
Shopify includes the X-Shopify-Hmac-SHA256 header on HTTPS deliveries. Verify it with the app client secret and the raw request body before processing the event, per Shopify Dev, Sept 2026.
4. Acknowledge first, process after
If processing inventory, orders, or refunds takes time, acknowledge receipt first and queue the work. Shopify Dev recommends queueing for bursts and reconciliation for missed data.
5. Recreate only removed subscriptions
If logs show the subscription was removed after repeated failures, fix the endpoint first, then recreate the subscription. Recreating before the endpoint works just repeats the failure.
When to contact Shopify Support
Contact Shopify Support or developer support when Shopify delivery logs contradict your server logs, required delivery details are missing, or a subscription disappears after the endpoint is confirmed healthy.
Dealing with this right now?
Text the webhook topic, endpoint URI, latest response code, and whether HMAC verification is passing. PJ can usually tell whether this is subscription config, raw-body parsing, or backend availability.
