What every refill machine must post
- A license decal or seal from the Food and Drug Branch, showing the license fee was paid and a license issued for that machine.
- The date it was last sanitized and serviced. The State requires service at least once every 31 days, so a date more than a month old is worth a call.
- The Food and Drug Branch complaint line, (800) 495-3232, plus a local number for service or complaints.
- A notice listing the containers that are suitable to use with the machine, and their condition.

Or the tap: who supplies your water
In Encinitas it depends on the neighborhood: the San Dieguito Water District (run by the City of Encinitas) serves Cardiff, Leucadia, Old Encinitas and part of New Encinitas; the Olivenhain Municipal Water District serves Olivenhain and other areas. Your bill names it. The State Water Board rates both "Not At-Risk," its best rating, and each district publishes a yearly water quality report.

If something looks wrong
- A refill machine (dirty, no decal, old service date): the Food and Drug Branch, (800) 495-3232.
- Your tap water (color, taste, pressure): your water district first; the numbers are on the water company page.
