Reach Airbnb or Vrbo for real

Search "Airbnb phone number" and some of what comes up is fake. Here are the numbers each company publishes on its own help pages, the scam to watch for, and the deadlines that decide whether a guest gets a refund or a host gets paid for damage. Airbnb shows different numbers on different pages and in different countries, so there's no single number to memorize. The safe habit: get it from airbnb.com or vrbo.com, or the app, never from a search ad, a text or an email.

Airbnb's own warning: "People sometimes create fake emails, text messages, phone numbers, or websites designed to look like Airbnb." Fraudsters can also disguise caller ID to look like a trusted number. And: "only communicate, book, and pay through Airbnb." If someone asks you to pay off the platform, wire money, or read them a code, it's not Airbnb. How to report a suspicious message · is this text a scam?

• A problem with your Airbnb stay: "Guests must report Reservation Issues within 72 hours." Airbnb generally turns your payment into a travel credit so you can rebook, but you can always ask for a refund to your original payment method instead, and an unused credit is refunded after 72 hours (Airbnb rebooking and refund policy).
• Cancelling on Airbnb: a full refund within 24 hours of confirming, if you booked at least 7 days before check-in. After that it depends on the host's policy: Flexible is a full refund until 24 hours before check-in, Moderate until 5 days before, and stricter policies give back less (Airbnb cancellation policies).
• Cancelling on Vrbo: refunds are issued automatically by the property's policy; cancel by 11:59 p.m. (the property's time zone) on the last day of the window (Vrbo policies, refunds):

On Airbnb, document the damage with photos or video, repair or cleaning estimates and receipts, then: "Within 14 days of the responsible guest's checkout, file a reimbursement request in the Resolution Center." The guest gets 24 hours to respond (Airbnb host damage protection). Vrbo recommends hosts reply to every guest message within 24 hours.
