When the numbers come in

  • Tuesday, Nov 3, 8pm: polls closed at every vote center and official drop box.
  • About 8:01pm: the Registrar started posting results. The County had said voting early "ensures ballots are included in the first release of election night results."
  • Election night: "Periodic election night result updates will continue throughout the night until all vote center ballots are reported," the Registrar said (Registrar of Voters).
  • The next updates: "By 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5," "By 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6" and "By 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9," then more at the Registrar's discretion, with the next date posted on sdvote.com. Mailed ballots "must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3 and received no later than seven days after Election Day," so close races can move.
  • Dec 3: the deadline to certify the election, when the count is official.
  • Dec 11: the Secretary of State certifies the statewide Statement of Vote (key dates).
