Robot vacuum or pool robot stuck, dirty or offline? PJ's Robot Care keeps the robots in a North County home running: a monthly visit to empty and wash the bins and filters, clear hair out of the brushes, wipe the sensors, update the app, redo the map after the furniture moves, and for a pool robot, rinse the filter baskets and untangle the cable. $25 a month per home in Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas, Del Mar and Carlsbad; first setup $49.

Rather just ask? Text your question to PJ, a real person in Cardiff, and he answers it. Asking is free. Robot doing something weird? Send a photo or a short video. Text PJ

What a care visit covers

  • Robot vacuums and mops: bin and dock bag, filter, main and side brushes, wheels, the mop pad and water tank, sensors and the charging contacts, all done the way your model's manual says.
  • Pool robots: filter baskets rinsed, brushes and tracks checked, the swivel cable untangled, the power supply and caddy checked, and the robot stored out of the water the way the maker says.
  • The app: back on Wi-Fi after a new router, schedules that match the house, no-go zones around the pet bowls and the rug fringe, and the family added so a son or daughter can check it from afar (eufy shows how to share access).
  • A short note after each visit: what was done, what part is wearing out, and what it costs if it needs one.

Setup guides by brand, checked earlier this month: iRobot · Shark · eufy · Maytronics Dolphin manuals. First-time setup for a parent: robot vacuum setup for seniors.

When it's actually broken

Repairs go to the maker or a repair shop registered with the State. California's Bureau of Household Goods and Services says "Service dealers are required to give consumers the written estimate of the cost, including total price, before repairs" (BHGS). Check a shop's registration at the DCA license search.

Dolphin pool robots: Maytronics takes repair requests online (Submit a Repair Request, Maytronics support). PJ files the request, packs and ships or drops it off, and gets it back in the pool. He doesn't repair robots himself and takes no commission from any shop.

For a parent's house

A robot vacuum is one less thing for Mom or Dad to push around, until it gets stuck and sits in a corner. The care visit is also a check-in: PJ sees the house every month. The Parent Check-In Plan covers the rest. Thinking bigger: home robots like NEO and Optimus, prices and dates.
