Thanksgiving 2026: what's open and closed in North County

Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026, and much of North County stays closed Friday too. Closed both days, by their own 2026 schedules: every California DMV office, the County library branches in Solana Beach, Encinitas, Cardiff and Del Mar, Solana Beach City Hall and the North County courthouse, and both days are County holidays. No school all week in Encinitas Union and Del Mar Union (Nov 23-27). Trash: EDCO runs one day late for Thursday and Friday customers only. Thursday is on the Postal Service's and the Federal Reserve's holiday lists; Friday isn't on either.

Each line read on the source's own page on November 3, 2026; the courthouse list on October 15, 2026.

EDCO's 2026 schedule for Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar says "One-Day Delay for Thursday & Friday Customers Only" for Thanksgiving Day, so a Thursday pickup comes Friday and a Friday pickup comes Saturday; Monday to Wednesday don't change. Not sure of your day? Find your trash day.

Encinitas runs a 10K at 7:30am and a 5K at 8am on Coast Highway 101 at D Street; Oceanside's 5K starts in waves at 7am and 8am from 330 N. Coast Highway; Escondido's Rancho San Pasqual 5K is free at 8am. North County turkey trots: start lines, times and prices.

These hadn't posted a Nov 26-27 line we could read on November 3, so call or check their sites:

• NCTD (COASTER, BREEZE, SPRINTER) holiday service; North County alerts today carries its live alerts.
• Carlsbad and Oceanside city halls and their city libraries.
• Your bank's branch on Friday, and Social Security offices.
• Other school districts: San Dieguito Union High, Carlsbad Unified, Oceanside Unified and Solana Beach School District.

1. DMV business? Every office is closed Thursday and Friday: book Wednesday, Nov 25 or the next Monday.
2. Library books due? The four County branches are closed Thursday and Friday.
3. Thursday or Friday trash day? Put the carts out one day later than usual.
4. Mail or a bank errand? Wednesday; Friday isn't a postal or Fed holiday, but check your branch.
