Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) is Medi-Cal's adult day health care: a licensed center that provides nursing, therapies, mental health and social services, personal care, a meal, and transportation to and from home.

Who qualifies
Adults on Medi-Cal (including people who also have Medicare) in a Medi-Cal health plan, who need nursing-facility level care, or have dementia, a brain injury, a chronic mental illness or a developmental disability and need help with daily activities. The Medi-Cal plan decides, after a nurse's in-person review.

DHCS intends to move CBAS out of the CalAIM waiver, which ends December 31, 2026, and into the regular Medi-Cal plan "to strengthen this benefit as an entitlement."
