If you build on these yourself
- CMS provider data takes a POST of conditions to
/provider-data/api/1/datastore/query/{dataset}/0. Specialty names are long ("CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE (CARDIOLOGY)"), so match with thelikeoperator and%cardio%, not an exact value. - openFDA answers a 404 "No matches found" when nothing matches. That's an empty answer, not an outage: a drug with no current shortage looks exactly like that.
- Census ACS subject tables are suppressed for small cities like Solana Beach and Del Mar. The detailed B tables by ZIP code area are not, and ZIPs line up with most other data.
- The State's licensing files on data.ca.gov move: look the download up by resource name every run, and retry once when the mirror throws a 502.
- Kalshi's public market data now returns prices as
yes_bid_dollarsand sizes as_fpfields. - Privacy: license and permit files can include owners' names and home addresses. Leave those columns out; business phones are fine.

Is there a free API for nursing home ratings?
Yes. CMS publishes Care Compare nursing home data, including star ratings and beds, through its provider data API (dataset 4pq5-n9py). It's free and needs no key.
How do I find Medicare doctors by specialty with the CMS API?
Query the Doctors and Clinicians dataset (mj5m-pzi6) with a like condition on pri_spec, such as %CARDIO%, because CMS uses long specialty names like CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE (CARDIOLOGY).
Is the Census API free?
Yes. The Census Bureau's API is free; you request a free key for regular use.
