SDG&E says the Medical Baseline discount "will gradually adjust over the next four years, from about 36% to about 20%," and that bills may increase even if usage stays the same. The discount now shows as its own line on the bill.
What doesn't change
- Enrollment still starts with a doctor-certified application: 1-800-560-5551, weekdays 7am to 4pm.
- Enrolled households can still get extra notices and, during a shutoff, in-person contact attempts.
- In a fire-threat area with a past shutoff, the 2026 rebate takes $525 off a portable power station. Backup power for medical devices.
Offset the increase
Stack the discounts that still apply: CARE or FERA (up to 35% off for households under the income limits), the cheaper Clean Energy Alliance plan in its cities, and every other way to lower the bill.

Questions people ask
Is SDG&E's Medical Baseline discount going down?
Yes. SDG&E says it will gradually adjust over four years from about 36% to about 20%, so bills may rise even at the same usage.
Do I need to do anything about the Medical Baseline change?
Not for the discount change itself; it shows up on the bill. New enrollment still needs a doctor-certified application. Questions: 1-800-560-5551.
