For people 65 and older, through June 30, 2027 the most you can own is $130,000 for one person, plus $65,000 for every extra person in the household (up to 10). Starting July 1, 2027, it drops to $21,000 for one person and $31,000 for two.
Why it matters for care
Many of the rungs below a nursing home run through Medi-Cal: IHSS, adult day health care, PACE with no premium, the Medi-Cal plan's Community Supports, and the assisted living waiver. If a parent might need care in the next few years, the window with the higher limit is worth knowing about.
Nursing homes and gifts
If someone moves into a nursing home, Medi-Cal looks at assets they gave away in the 30 months before they entered.
